Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, honourable guests, fellow Rotarians and Interactors. My name is Christopher Chung and I am a representative from St. Mary's College Interact Club. Most of you here may not know that our club has been in existence for only 2 years. Though our club is still in its infancy, over the past our club has manned up to the challenge. This is a result of the hard work and guidance of our perseverant president Anish Bachu, our scrupulous secretary Vikash Ragbir and our trusty treasurer Kieran Rampersad.
Over the past year we accomplished a lot. Internally, our club had seen a significant increase in membership and there was shuffling and allocation of members to improve the efficiency of the group. Externally, our club has become more present in the local community after we successfully hosted our Christmas Chagville Beach Clean-up. We hosted this green project as a joint project with other interact clubs across the country. At end of the clean-up we collected over 2 tons of garbage and after we had a food sharing as we had music playing to show the fellowship among the different groups.
Later this year we plan to continue other joint green projects with the other Interact groups. We plan to host a reforestation project, in that we will have to liaise with the forestry division. The St. Mary's Interact Club takes green projects seriously, if we are to obtain and maintain a sustainable future. Some of you may have heard of the recent green summit in Rio in which hundreds of government officials from around the world came to discuss climate change. But this summit, as many before, was full of talk. We, the St. Mary's Interact Club, on the other hand are and will be full of action. I, personally, on behalf of the club, would like to thank you for your support for the past 2 years. Especially when we did not and still do not have the guidance of a teacher. We always had you, our respected and very reliable Rotarians for your assistance. Also, we will keep you posted on upcoming green project events. We, as a community, are to guide this train of green change to make our country greener and cleaner - for together we aspire and together we shall achieve. Thank you for your time and may you enjoy the rest of your evening.
