Guest Speaker - Luther Balthazar - Rotaract Club of Central Port of Spain - 28th November 2013

RYLA CONFERENCE 2013 EXPERIENCE: THROUGH MY EYES
Enlightening, fun, hardwork and the opportunity to build diverse friendships epitomises Luther's experience at this year's Rotary Youth Leadership Awards held in the lovely Marie-Galante island located south of Guadeloupe. A three day forum which encompassed workshops and other engaging activities, various relevant topic such as "Ethics and morality", "Conflict resolution" and "The importance of communication" were discussed in great detail. The cultural richness of the island intrigued him, as he was able to share in the local cuisines and be entertained by various stories told in Creole. The other main highlights of his visit were his personal meetings with Rotary's District Governor 7030 Mr. Herve Honore and Rotary's first District Governor 7030 (previously 404) Sir John Watts.

CHRISTMAS KETTLE APPEAL: SALVATION ARMY INITIATIVE
Help us Rotarians to help the needy persons in various communities throughout Trinidad and Tobago this Christmas. This was the partnership advocated by Major Violet Ezeh of the Salvation Army, an institution in Trinidad and Tobago since 1901. The plea is to all Rotary Clubs of Trinidad and Tobago to help "man the kettles" on one or more days during the period of the appeal, Oct and Nov '13. The Christmas Kettle appeal is a major fundraising event of the Salvation Army which occurs on a worldwide scale. The funds collected will be used to make Christmas a joyous and memorable occasion for many in need.

Rotarian Barbara Olumide-Alleyne - 14th November 2013

Rotarian Barbara Olumide-Alleyne in her usual charm and prowess championed the commemoration and celebration of Rotary Foundation month with an inspirational and moving presentation. A video presentation which summarized the essence of the Rotary Foundation, heralded Barbara's sermon embodying the mission, history, ideals, opportunities and contribution of the Rotary Foundation. She purported that the Rotary Foundation is a vehicle and an enabler for Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through the improvement of health, support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. Its genesis was in 1917 when RI President Arch C. Klumph proposed an endowment for the purpose of doing good in the world, which was then renamed "The Rotary Foundation" in 1928. She showcased why the Rotary Foundation is a unique entity and clearly articulated its structure and being. Expressed further were the opportunities that the Rotary Foundation offers to Rotary clubs for grants to fund various service projects, and she made known to all present, that this funding is only possible when we as Rotarians give of ourselves and contribute to the Rotary Foundation.
